Our State & Half Recipes

IMG_20200330_150809.jpg

THIS recipe, from one of our favorite magazines, came across our Facebook feed this afternoon. We decided that it was the sort of week that called for a cake. BUT, on Pandemic rations, We didn’t want to use 3 sticks of butter or 3 cups of flour. So, since one of us is learning about fractions, that one of us helped cut the recipe down by half!

And now, that small person is going to follow the directions to make something amazingly delicious for the whole family. That is TWO math lessons in ONE. Thanks, Our State Magazine.

Hopefully those of you from other places have something similar. HERE is the workbook we created to walk through each issue for 4th graders. We did one page every week to learn about parts of speech, regions of NC, advertising, recipes, geography and culture of specific cities in NC, writing articles, and opinions to the Editor.
