Attitude Adjustments

Talk to Yourself! Most children love their teacher. At home, is sometimes challenging. You love them unconditionally. You’re with them 24 hours a day at this point, which makes it really hard to be consistent. You are not their teacher. Sometimes helpless or negative words slip out easier at home.

Make a Talk to Yourself poster for your family with the words that need to replace the ones you are hearing through the day. Or, download mine HERE.

Take a Break. What we are doing is not normal. It is frustrating for everyone. It will be frustrating for a while. One of our best solutions is a 10 minute quiet time break away from people and expectations. Or, maybe your little person just needs to run around or jump on the trampoline. Maybe your little person just needs a hug. These are the three needs I’ve seen through the day—even with games instead of worksheets and read aloud adventures instead of workbooks.

Sometimes, you just need to ask for a break. Sometimes you don’t even have the right words to ask. Make a “pass” for your family or download mine HERE. I keep ours on the fridge where everyone can see them.

What is a disrespectful or unhelpful attitude? We know it when we hear it, but, it is not quite so clean-cut to children—especially in the midst of frustration or upheaval. And no one really wants to spend a long time talking about it.

Our communication is made up of Words, Tone, and Body Language. HERE are ways to pinpoint and practice the part that needs gentle correction and work. Honestly, I’ve used this for me more than I have for them this week.
