Read and Respond
In addition to books each child has chosen for herself, we have been doing one chapter a day with a response. You could ask them to:
Highlight vocabulary words that are unfamiliar and make their own dictionary.
Summarize or answer questions about the chapter.
Use a post-it note to write questions for you to answer about the chapter.
Create something from the chapter. This is the Ingalls family dugout from On the Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Research something interesting from the chapter. In Chapter 3-4 of the same book, the Ingalls family goes swimming in Plum Creek. Laura mentions different flora and fauna from the creek ecosystem, so we looked them up and collected facts about each one to create a Google document.
